Department of Microbiology has both UG & PG courses. UG course started in 1995. PG course started in 1998.
UG programme consists of 3 Years of study with 6 semesters covering 12 major papers, 4 allied paper and 2 AOS paper.
PG/M.Sc. Applied Microbiology programme consists of 2 Years of study consisting 4 semester covering 12 papers. It also includes a project work.
Our department consists of 9 Teaching Faculties. All are good in their academics and well experienced. Both UG and PG labs are well equipped which includes Spectrophotometer, Sonicator, Dark Field inverted microscopes, Cooling and Research centrifuges, egg incubators etc.
Our PG students are doing their M.Sc. Projects in the College/Department premises itself. Project works are published in journals.
Students are taken for the field visits to the reputed institution like TRC Chennai, Sewage treatment plant - Chennai, CFTRI – Mysore, NIOT Obbcin etc. Students are allowed to attend National Seminars.
We proved to say that our department producing minimum of 2 to 3 University Rank. Twice we got 1st Rank every year right from the beginning.

This function was presided over by '‘Dr.N.MATHIVANAN' Asst.Professor,
CAS BOTANY,UNIVERSITY OF MADRAS and delivered a lecture on 'Drug Discovery,from microbial diversity' on 6.2.2010.
Life Science Department organized a guest lecture presented by 'Dr.P.KALAISELVI, Asst.Professor, Dept. of Medical Biochemistry, IBMS,University of Madras. She rendered a lecture on ‘Turning back the clock Green Tea Polyphenol’ on 9.2.2010.
